Standard 1
Scientific and Theoretical Knowledge
Element 1.3: Describe and apply motor development theory and principles related to skillful movement, physical activity, and fitness.
Artifact: Motor Development Lab 2
Date: Fall 2011
Reflection: Lab 2 for Motor Development was to observe the skills of the students at St. Mary’s Elementary School. The task for this lab was to describe and apply motor skills of two young students, a boy and girl in Kindergarten and first grade. We were to assess these students as they performed the skills of a run, a gallop, and a hop. After they completed these skills, it gave me time to critique their motor movements, and then help them correct where they went wrong in their performances. This is a very important skill as a teacher because as a physical educator you need to be able to apply the principles and theories that are related to these skillful movements. As a physical educator with this ability, you will be able to break down, demonstrate and critique every student’s skill movements. Being able to help them become better movers by giving them specific and congruent feedback.
